This middle school-focused half-day camp will also explore what stewardship can look like in your community and prepare participants for volunteer opportunities throughout the City of Fort Collins. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from our teen Project Hort participants about their volunteer experience at The Gardens.

The Human Library

You are invited to join us at The Human Library, a unique Northern Colorado event, scheduled for Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.

The Human Library is a safe and non-judgmental forum for community members to engage in sometimes difficult conversations and gain a deeper understanding of diverse human experiences. The Human Library offers human “Books” that can be borrowed by “Readers,” where Books share and engage in conversations about their unique stories, particularly experiences in Fort Collins regarding their identity/identities.
The program theme is “Being Me in Fort Collins” and encourages all participants to “unjudge” a Book by its cover.

During this three-hour program, you, as a Reader, will have the opportunity to check out four human Books - community volunteers who have been subjected to prejudice, stigma, or discrimination because of their lifestyle, diagnosis, belief, social status, ethnic origin, or disability. The hope is that everyone, Readers and Books, gain new understandings that advance acceptance and inclusion among diverse groups.

Over the course of several hours, you will explore their experiences in our community and have the chance to ask questions. The hope is that everyone, Readers and Books, gain new understanding in our community.
