360 Neighborhoods | Get Ready to Celebrate!

Neighborhoods are the heart of Fort Collins. Did you know we have around 360 neighborhoods in town?

360 Neighborhoods is a new citywide program that runs May through October and helps Fort Collins neighbors connect, build community and celebrate what makes their neighborhoods unique - so you can love where you live!

Each month features a different theme. You can register and host a 360 event, giving you access to easy “plug-and-play” ideas, project guides and incentives to help you get started.

Spring Grass and Weeds

Dandelions, other weeds, and grasses can soon be seen sprouting throughout the City of Fort Collins along, with your favorite spring flowers. During this time of year, the City’s Code Compliance Division often receives reports from community members expressing concerns about yard maintenance (or lack thereof) in their neighborhoods. Like many communities, City of Fort Collins Municipal Code regulation contains weed/grass height restrictions of nine (9) inches on developed residential and commercial properties and twelve (12) inches on undeveloped properties.

Code Compliance Inspectors are out in neighborhoods responding to complaints and proactively addressing code violations, such as seasonal tall weeds and grasses. If your lawn becomes too overgrown, you may receive a letter from the City, asking that you mow within a seven (7) day period.  If the weeds and grasses have not been cut by then, or if the homeowner has not contacted the City to request a reasonable extension, the City may dispatch a licensed contractor to mow the property, and the property owner will be billed for the work completed.

Friendly communication with your neighbors regarding issues is highly encouraged and a good starting point for keeping your neighborhood beautiful.

That said, if you are experiencing ongoing issues around weed management or yard maintenance, or for general information, feel free to contact the Code Compliance Department at (970) 416-2350, or email us at codecompliance@fcgov.com

April is Fair Housing Month, Celebrate with Us

This year, the City is commemorating the 58th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful.

Fair housing laws were enacted to provide equal housing opportunities. It is illegal to discriminate on the basis of a person's protected class in the sale, rental or financing of housing. Protected classes include race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability.

Each year, the City celebrates Fair Housing month by honoring an organization that contributes to fair housing choice in our community through a Proclamation at City Council. On Tuesday, April 7, the Mayor read a Proclamation recognizing Colorado State University’s Off-Campus Life office. Off-Campus Life furthers fair housing by providing housing education and advocacy for CSU students, and housing resources to the public. Since the ‘80s, they have provided resources to renters and outreach to populations who experience barriers to housing. We recognize Off-Campus Life as a valuable member of the community’s housing-support system that increases housing opportunity in our community.

You can learn more about Fair Housing, resources, and how to file a complaint here, or by visiting HUD’s Fair Housing webpage
