National League of Cities Selects Fort Collins to Support Second-Stage and Legacy Businesses

Fort Collins has been selected by National League of Cities to participate in Legacy Forward, a new national initiative designed to help small and mid-size cities invest in the long-term success of established local businesses.

Through the program, leaders from City of Fort Collins will receive training, technical assistance and access to a national network of municipalities working to support legacy and second-stage businesses who may be facing increased challenges tied to workforce shortages, supply chain disruptions, and business ownership transitions.

The City of Fort Collins will also be working with the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce and Colorado Small Business Development Center of Larimer County to bring new strategies back to our community.

If you’re a second-stage or legacy-owned business (in business longer than 10 years), we’d love to hear from you by replying to this email or reaching out to business@fortcollins.gov.

Fort Collins' Enterprise Zone Just Got Bigger!

Did you know?! As of January 2026, Fort Collins' Enterprise Zone boundaries have expanded, meaning hundreds more businesses in our community may now be eligible. The worst part? You could be leaving thousands in tax credits on the table without realizing it.

Everyday activities like buying equipment, hiring and training staff, and offering benefits might qualify for state incentives just by being in the right location. Last year alone, we helped more than 500 Fort Collins businesses get signed up and start unlocking these savings.

Want to know if you’re in the zone? Reach out to our office—we’ll help you find out!
