The City of Fort Collins Historic Preservation team is supporting the Poudre Landmarks Foundation's Historic Homes Tour again this year and we need your help! The Historic Homes Tour is one of Poudre Landmarks Foundation's signature annual events, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore some of Fort Collins' historic (privately-owned) homes and learn about the people, architecture, and stories that make our community special. Whether you’re passionate about local history, enjoy meeting people, or simply want to support historic preservation, Poudre Landmarks invites you to join and support the day. Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 26, which is National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. You can find volunteer events all over the state and our Natural Areas Department will be joining in on the fun. Details are still being coordinated and will be announced in the September VolunteerNews. For now, reserve the date!

NextGenServe is the City's volunteer service club for teens ages 13-18. Now, in it's fifth year, NextGen has become a inclusive community for teens who want to give back and do something meaningful with their summer. 2026 was our largest year, with 50 teens participating in the program. Teens volunteered throughout the summer in City departments and 23 local non-profits. Teens completed 50 projects with programs such as Hearts and Horses, FoCo Cafe, Colorado Youth Outdoors, City Parks, Poudre Fire Authority, TAC 212, City Natural Areas and many more. On August 5th, Volunteer Services hosted an End of Season Celebrations where teens were able to present about their favorite projects in front of parents and community leaders. In July, our NextGenPro teen volunteer group visited the Blacked Footed Ferret breeding facility to lend a helping hand. Teens spent the day learning about North America's most endangered mammal and assembled enrichment toys for the ferrets. Several teens made a poster about their experience that will now live in the staff room at the ferret center.
