United States
Fast growing oak with potential for red/orange fall color. Tolerant of different sites and soil conditions. Needs to be from a northern seed source. Some develop frost cracking around the base, but this is a mostly cosmetic issue. Can be confused with scarlet oak or northern red oak in the trade which accounts for the trees that look chlorotic around Fort Collins.
This species is native to the southeastern portion of the U.S. Tolerates dry soils.
