USDA Plants National Database recognizes six varieties of R. trilobata, all native to the U.S. Varieties anisophylla, quinata, racemulosa, pilosissima, simplicifolia and trilobata are primarily found in the southwestern and western states. The latter three are also native to Colorado.
This is an important adult food host for many of our native invertebrates.
Fall color is orange-red.
