Not Native
Excellent large shade tree with great pollinator value. Should not be planted along major roads, areas with high salt or in parking lots as it is prone to leaf scorch and defoliating. The straight species is a better tree for shade than most selections which are often narrow. May have issues with Japanese beetle in Fort Collins. Tolerant of clay and alkaline soils. Tends to defoliate late in the year.
The straight species is native to the eastern half of the United States.
