Fort Collins
Flora of North America recognizes six subspecies of A. ludoviciana, all are native to the U.S. Four subspecies (albula, incompta, ludoviciana and mexicana) are native to Colorado and the Fort Collins area. Subspecies candicans grows in the western half of the U.S. and subspecies redolens is found in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.
This species is wind pollinated and is an important larval host plant for native butterflies.
