Notes

This species is wind pollinated and is an important larval host plant for native butterflies. Flora of North America lists three subspecies of A. cana, all native to the U.S. Two of the subspecies listed in this database are native to Colorado. This species has entire leaves and is found mostly on the eastern slope.
