A great hawthorn for Fort Collins. Minimal if any disease issues and holds its fruit all winter so there is significantly less mess when used as a tree near sidewalks. Good exfoliating bark and tall enough to be pruned so that it can be walked under.
This cultivar is a native selection, the collection was from a tree that was about 100 years old. It is native to the southcentral, and southeastern portions of the U.S.
Tolerates dry, clay soils. Fall color is purple and scarlet.
