This species is primarily native to the midwestern states but, can be found throughout the U.S. planted along streetscapes and in parking lots. It can become weedy or invasive in some habitats. In the spring this tree is incredibly fragrant, often making one wonder where the lovely scent is coming from? The flowers of this plant are rather small and inconspicuous.
Wrap young trees. Canker can be a problem for this tree but, it is rarely killed by it.
